Cultural Exchange Event at International Residence hall
Annual cultural exchange event for international students and the local community (Members of Iwakubo Resident’s Association) was held at International Residence Hall on Sat.Nov. 17th, 2018.
This was the 15th event and around 70 people including Mr. Yuichi Higuchi, the Mayor of Kofu City, took part in the event.
International students introduced their cultures by entertaining community members with their hand-made dishes. There were 14 kinds of dishes from 8 countries (U.S.A., Germany, Thailand, China, France, Mongolia, U.K. and Malaysia) and also a dish from the students of Fuyoryo (the University dormitory for Japanese students); all these traditional dishes were very fresh to participants and all enjoyed them very much.
As the highlight of the event, international students experienced Mochi-tsuki (pounding steamed sticky rice into rice cake) with kind guidance by the members of Iwakubo Resident’s Association.
After enjoying the taste of mochi, participants enjoyed a traditional Shishimai performance by Iwakubo Resident’s Association and chorus by the international students as well as. It was such a heart warming day that further strengthened the tie between international students and local community.
